The CrossFit Games 2021 are on the horizon, and many of the participants are incredibly excited. Besides the usual competitions like the men's, women's events will also take place. We all know about the Reebok's equipment, Pegboard contest, cutting system, and women's event. However, we don't know much. Keep reading to find out! CrossFit News Page: Keep an eye out for news updates regarding the competition
The competition for women
The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne Koski and Tia-Clair Toomey Orr won the first event. Koski won the overall competition after maintaining her lead all the way. Tall finished second and Eramoo O’Connell third, respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.
The women’s competition is populated with high-level competitors. The field features nine athletes, including a 19 year-old Australian powerhouse who won this competition last year. Kara Saunders, an Australian athlete who finished second in Australia in the team division and eleventh overall in 2020 is another contender. Another rising star is Andrea Nisler, who competed in the team division in 2018 and finished third in the United States and fifteenth overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
Pegboard contest at Crossfit Games 2121 was a new concept. Along with dumbbell overhead squats and double-unders, it was included in the Games' summer Olympic programme. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 and became the Games' third winner. There were several tie in the contest but Toomey Orr's dominance was too strong to stop him winning.

CrossFit Games athletes train by focusing on ten core physical skills: strength, flexibility and speed. Competitors are tested on their grip strength and coordination in the Pegboard contest. Competitors hold two wooden pegs between each hand and compete to win. The competition was intense, and the athletes left feeling satisfied after completing their Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games will again use a cutting method for individual competition. It's not as extreme as the cuts used in past Games, but still very different than this year. The competition has 15 individual events. Therefore, it's likely that the first cut of 30 athletes will occur after the seventh or eight event. CrossFit must also answer the question of how it will adjust the points following cuts. The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.
This year's CrossFit Games Field includes 236 athletes. This is the largest field in its history. Major cuts occur in the first six events. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. The top 30 then compete in a sprint couplet to determine the top ten. The top 20 athletes will then compete in the six remaining events. Veteran Games participants criticized Castro's system, claiming that the cuts were too drastic.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok recently announced new CrossFit Games equipment, including clothing and shoes. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They are built to accommodate multiple fitness needs. Reebok claims this shoe is "the shoe that will fit all your fitness needs," but it's more like a regular training shoe. The shoe's upper is made from DuPont's Kevlar material, which promotes durability and breathability. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. Reebok has sponsored these Games for over a decade. However, it now appears that the company's involvement in the Games is decreasing. Reebok won’t pay for the Games’ prize, but they will continue to make all athletic apparel, equipment, and gear worn by athletes. However, Reebok CrossFit Games will no longer be called the company.
